Why get involved?
It is very hard to miss the heart of God when it comes to dealing with strangers and aliens in our midst. We must be diligent to obey Scripture rather than our own fears, thought processes, or what the media says. God loves all people, and we must do the same.
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of Heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything. Rather, He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man He made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us. – Acts 17:24–27
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels. – Hebrews 13:2
You who have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the Image of the One who created Him, a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman but Christ is all and in all. – Colossians 3:10–11
Following are a few testimonies from refugee families and mentor families and what it means to them to be a part of this exciting opportunity.
“It was a very good program and I got a very nice people that became friends and my new family in US. We are still connected till now, and share information till now by texting each other or meet. For me, I received a very good support by them especially when I applied for the Bank work program, they helped me to pass the assessment. I would like to than GOD and you that I have those nice people in my new life.” – Zeyad T. (refugee family)
“Great friendship with the whole family. Several team members were able to help the refugee prepare for the bank work program. We were able to introduce other people in our community – breaking down walls and stigma around refugees and people of different religions.” – Joel C. (mentor family)
“Once the initial awkwardness was over, we learned a lot about another culture and we have established a friendship for life. We love our refugee family. I would call it friendship program instead of a mentor program. We are really thankful for the program and have learned a lot and appreciate the huge service it provides” – Cody S. (mentor family)
